Choose one character from Julius Caesar and select a "theme song" for this person. Your song can be from any musical period, but should have lyrics that are related to this character in some way. (Avoid any songs with naughty words, though, please!) Include the song title and artist, a link to the lyrics of your song, and an explanation of why this song suits the character. Your explanation should be at least 100 words. Note: Though more than one person may choose the same character, no two people may use the same song. Good luck and happy posting!
P.S. All blogs should be posted by Monday night.

The character from Julius Caesar that I'm choosing is Julius Caesar. As I was riding home on the bus today, I was listening to my iPod, listening to my favorite song, realizing that this is the perfect song to explain Julius and Brutus during the assassination. "Tell Me Why" by Taylor Swift is the song I am thinking about. This song reminds me of Julius and Brutus because their supposed to be friends, and than Brutus joins the conspiaracy and plans on killing Caesar. Like the lyrics state, "you could write a book on how to ruin someone's day" Brutus is ruining many peoples day because he is the last person to stab Caesar which is the official killing of him. Also, the part where is says "And I know that you see what you're doing to me
Tell me why," makes me think that Brutus knows what he is doing, but why is he doing it? And the last stanzas of the song it says " I take a step back and let you go
I told you I'm not bullet-proof, now you know," brings the attention to me that Caesar is dead and that he isn't bullet-proof so he cannot live through this pain. This is the link to the lyrics -http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/t/taylor_swift/tell_me_why.html

Hi Mrs. Morrison, I'm not sure if you got the whole link to the song so i'll just send it here.

It didn’t take me long to find the perfect song to go along with one of the characters in Julius Caesar. The song is called “It Ends Tonight,” by the All American Rejects. I based my decision on the character Brutus. To me, I believe that the song has multiple meanings. Brutus has been dealing with the thought of Caesar becoming ruler, and although he seems to be dealing with it, he can only take so much. The lyrics “A weight is lifted on this evening, I give the final blow,” reminds me of how Brutus is the last to stab Caesar. After stabbing him, this whole weight is lifted off of his shoulders knowing that Rome will never be under Caesars rule. “It’s too late to fight, It ends tonight,” Caesar doesn’t have time to change, what’s done is done. “Just a little insight, won’t make this right.” At the end of the day, the conspirators have done their job, but I still believe a few realize that killing Caesar doesn’t make it right.

The character I have chosen from Julius Caesar is Portia and the song I have chosen is “Fix You” by Cold Play. This song would most likely pertain to the part where she is begging Brutus to tell her what is wrong with him.
Such as how he is very restless and cannot sleep or eat as he wants to join the conspiracy but doesn’t know what to do, “When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep.” . Generally this song is about how the person wants to help someone who they love very much, which is quite obvious with Portia and Brutus.
Even though they are both supposed to be stoics they both love each other and are equal with each other, anyways I just think this song fits because of how badly Portia wants Brutus to feel better.
Song Lyrics: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/c/coldplay/fix_you.html
On the way home from school, I was listening to “Hello Astronaut” by Oceana, and I felt that it very well described Antony’s feelings toward Caesar. The song, to me, is about someone watching their friend fall and fail and not able to help them, but they try to. Mark Antony loved Caesar and would never have wanted him to die. Even though Mark didn’t actually witness the death of his dear friend, Caesar, I think he still feels like he could have done more to help him. Looking at Caesar’s dead, cold body Mark Antony must have felt so helpless. He wanted to help him but there’s no more he can do, and I’m sure that absolutely killed him inside. Antony lost one of his closest friends for no good reason. Even though he will satisfy the vindictive side of himself by getting revenge, nothing will ever fill the void that Caesar once did. Nothing will replace Caesar.

I had chose the character Artimedorous frmo the play "Julius Caesar." The song I have chosen for him is "My List" by, The Killers. This song reflects on how he tries to warn Caesar about his list of people. Lines in the song such as "Let me show you how much I care." It can resemble how he keeps on trying to warn Caesar and that he really does care about Caesar and does not want him to die. Another line, "But I always said I try," can also fit the situation they are in

One of my favorite songs immediately came to mind when I think of Portia from "Julius Caesar." The song is entitled, "Truly Madly Deeply," by Savage Garden. Portia is described as a gentle, but strong woman who would sacrifice her own body (stabbing herself in the leg) to ensure the repair of Brutus's mental well-being. This song is pure, indicating how much love someone can have for another and the willingness people have to comfort and support each other whenever necessary. The first verse of the song itself clearly shows the love Portia has for Brutus and vice versa.
"I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish,
I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope, I'll be your love,
Be anything that you need
I love you more with every breath,
Truly, madly, deeply do"
On the surface, Brutus is a character who eventually breaks out of his damaged shell, but the love he has for Portia is evident. I think that although both characters are stoics, in their minds, this is what the other is feeling for each other. The lyrics to this beautiful song are deep words unspoken between this husband and wife. Their relationship is fair, due to the equality, but it is also supportive and loving. Brutus has always said he does not deserve Portia, but he knows how fortunate he is to have her, while Portia knows that Brutus's decision about joining the conspiracy are troubling him. "Truly Madly Deeply" is the theme song for Portia's caring nature towards Brutus, as well as their relationship.

Brutus, now the leader of the conspiracy, has just completed the murder of his friend, Julius Caesar. If I were directing the 2009 production of Juluis Caesar, U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday" would begin here. Brutus was conflicted to the last in deciding whether or not to murder his comrade. The lyrics "I can't believe the news today, I can't close my eyes and make it go away" relay this disbelief that he has just killed Caesar. However, once the deed is done, Brutus must take charge again and make sure all of the conspirators know the are in this to the end, as Mr. Bono says, "Tonight, we can be as one". The conspirators must stand together, or fall separately.

This essay had me very stumped for a while and I probably listened to almost fifty songs before I found the right one. I wanted to do to Brutus because I played him in the assassination and after listening to song after song I decided the “Positively 4th Street” by Bob Dylan would be a perfect fit. This song is about betrayal and “stabbing a so called friend in the back,” which is exactly what Brutus did to Caesar. Caesar confided and trusted Brutus and they were very good friends that shared a great love for each other. Brutus betrayed Caesar by joining the conspiracy and eventually coming to lead it. He struck the final blow into Caesar, killing him and he led the conspirators through town waving their hands with the blood of Caesar. Although Brutus claims to have killed Caesar out of a greater love of Rome Caesar trusted him more than any one which makes it very ironic that Caesar closest friend come to lead the conspiracy against him and intimately killing him on the day of his crowning.

"Oh, my love Please don't cry I'll wash my bloody hands and We'll start a new life." Brutus, a main conspirator in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, is one who has no personal reason for hatred toward Caesar, but joins the conspiracy to assure the well-being of his beloved Rome in the long run. In the song "My Bloody Valentine" by Good Charolotte, the lyrics describe the murder of their crush's boyfriend. Now having read the first scene of Act III, it is time that the broken pieces of Rome are picked up and put back together. The lyrics to Good Charolottes song read "I'll wash my blood hands and We'll start a new life." This is exactly what Brutus must now do with Rome. Also, in the song, the murder is described. Much like in Julius Caesar, the victims last words spoken were a plea for their life: "he begged me not to do What I knew I had to do, 'cause I'm so in love with you." I could not think of a better song to describe the life of Brutus.

Portia loves her husband Brutus. They have an equal relationship, and they are true to each other. In thinking of their relationship and how Portia might feel about her husband, the first song that came to my mind was the classic “My Funny Valentine,” by Richard Rogers and Lorenz Hart. Brutus is noble, and while people love him, I picture him as a bit less good-looking than Caesar (possibly a part of why Caesar is more famous/exalted, but Brutus is well-respected). I can see Portia singing, “Your looks are laughable, unphotographable. Yet you’re my fav’rite work of art.” When she tries to get Brutus to open up to her, you can see the pure love Portia feels for him. Brutus’ reactions to Portia show that he treats her very well too.
“Don’t change a hair for me. Not if you care for me.
Stay little valentine
Stay, oh stay!
Each day is valentine’s day"
Portia sees Brutus as a treasure. Maybe other women would crush on Caesar, for his looks, but she loves her man for his nobility.

As viewed from a point at the very beginning of the story, I think the song "A Hero Comes Home" by Idina Menzel describes Julius Caesar through the eyes of his followers. The song is used in the movie "Beowulf" describing how no matter how far or how dangerous his travels are, a hero will always come home undefeated. "Just wait, though wide he may roam, always a hero comes home" is a lyric in the song that made me think of Caesar being viewed from by his followers because when he returned from his journey to battle Pompey, he came home undefeated. Although Caesar comes home to meet the fate of death, this song reflects his journeys and how he became a ruler to begin with.

Trying to find a song that represents a person isn't as easy as it seems. Many of my fellow classmates probably chose to find a song that represented Caesar, but I chose Portia, Brutus's wife. The song, "What Hurts The Most" by Rascall Flats and redone by Cascada describes what Portia is thinking when talking to her husband. Basically, what Portia is saying is that marriage is a close bond and is based on honesty, trust, and communication.
“I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house
That don’t bother me
I can take a few tears now and then
And just let them out”
This part of the song, I think, describes Portia’s stoicism.
“What hurts the most
Was being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away.”
These lyrics, to me, describe how hurt Portia is when Brutus doesn’t want to talk to her about what’s going on with him. She tells him that she has even wounded herself, and she deserves to know what is going on. She says that him not telling her is upsetting her a lot and she is very worried about him.

Portia, as we all know, is a true stoic,-one who would rather hurt themselves to prove they aren't bothered emotionally by anything, rather than shed the emotion through tears. When she realizes her dear husband is acting strange and withholding a secret from her, she immediately asks him to reveal the information. When Brutus denies his unusual behavior, Portia shows him the cut on her thigh that she produced herself, on behalf of proving to him that she can handle anything, no matter how deep or terrifying it may be. I chose the song "Hurt" by Johnny Cash to describe Portia during this stage in the play. It states "I hurt myself today, to see if I still feel, I focus on the pain, the only thing that's real". I believe that this is a perfect statement that directly tells what Portia is thinking. It explains how she literally hurts herself to see if she feels the pain, just as stoics do. The song also states "Beneath the stains of time, the feelings disappear, You are someone else, I am still right here". I think this describes how Portia is scared that her relationship with Brutus is fading, and she is becoming more distant to him, even though she is right there beside him.
"Hurt" by Johnny Cash is a beautiful song that perfectly describes Portia and her feelings, and I highly recommend you to follow this link and read upon the rest of the lyrics to discover the other reasons as to why I chose this song.

As I was thinking of my favorite bands that I listen to on a daily basis, it was fairly easy to pick a song. I was look through the posts and I found that no one wrote about Artimedorus. I chose the song "I Knew You'd Never Fly" by the amazing band Eye Alaska. Artimedorus tried his absolute hardest to persuade Caesar to read his letter, but his persuasion didn't help. "I'm only asking the obvious
I tried you once but you won't wake up" Those particular lyrics remind me of the time where Artimedorus was trying to get Caesar to read about the conspiritors. "Wake up or fall in the face of them." That basically shows the disturbing ending of Caesar's life, and it's how Caesar went. He didn't listen and he was killed. This is such an amazing song, and now I found a different way to look at it.

After some debate I decided to use “A Well Respected Man” by The Kinks to represent Brutus. The conspirators feel that Brutus is crucial in having a successful take down of Caesar. The conspirators know that, if Brutus is on their side, “his countenance, like richest alchemy, will change to virtue and worthiness” (I, iii, 159-160). His character and honor are manipulated by Cassius in order to convince him that he must join the conspiracy against Caesar. He cares more for Rome than his own life. And the conspirators know that “he sits high in all the people’s hearts” (I, iii, 157). The song talks about a “well-respected man” who “is oh, so good, and he’s oh so fine”, which I think is a perfect example of Brutus.

The character I chose is Brutus. Brutus is the one who quite possibly hurt Caesar the most because he was Caesar's best friend. The song I chose is "Judas" by Kelly Clarkson. The opening lines are the ones that made me think of Brutus.
"The only one who took you in
The only one who held your hand
Defended you against the others
Had your back on everything
Never let you down
You turned around betrayed your only brother"
I thought of Brutus at those lyrics because Brutus was Caesar's best friend and then betrayed him by joining Casca and the other conspirators. Not only does Brutus join the conspirators, but he delivers the last stab prior to the conspirators, beginning their over kill of Caesar. Due to Brutus' betrayal Caesar delivers perhaps the most famous lines from "Julius Caesar", "Et tu Brute? Then fall Caesar."

The song I chose was “There's No “I” In Team” by Taking Back Sunday. The character that best fits this song is Brutus. This song is about the betrayal of someone you trusted just like what happened between Brutus and Caesar. Caesar was betrayed by Brutus when he joins the conspiracy, takes charge and is the last to stab him. Caesar trusted Brutus and was obviously shocked that he was involved with it and kills hims.

The Character that I chose from "Julius Caesar" is Brutus, because he is a main conspirator of the assassination of Julius Caesar. The song that I chose that best represents Brutus is "The Gift" by Angels and Airwaves. I think this song represents Brutus's situation because it shows delight for the gift to come, and also shows the pain that Brutus feels. This song speaks about a new beginning, and a different world. It actually says, “And the world we know disappear,” in this song. This song also explains that everything will be “okay” now, and the fear and confusion is over. Just like how Rome and the conspirators felt after Caesar’s death. In the song it says, “Ill light a path far from here.” I think that this can pertain to Brutus because he plans on leading Rome on a new path with this assassination, and set them off in the right direction. On the other side of this song it shows the pain that is accompanied by "The Gift," this is true for Brutus because even though he looking out for the best interest of Rome, he had to kill one of his best friends.

After going through my iTunes, I think I found the perfect song for Julius Caesar. The character that best fits the lyrics would be Caesar himself. The song, "Head On A Plate" by Bayside goes along with Caesar's realization of the conspirators just as he dies. The song describes how Caesar walks right into their trap, gets stabbed, and tries to find the right words to say (to Brutus).
"Breathe kids, the mold is getting old
It'll be gone any day
The hipster empire of tomorrow
Will fall to the common kids of today." This verse tells us, the upcoming emperor will fall to the ones in the government today.
"I'm loose lipped now shaking back and forth
Problems fixed, I'm pouring out my soul
I find the right words to express myself." I feel this verse tells how Caesar reacts when he gets stabbed, particularly when Brutus gives his final blow.

In Julius Caesar there are a lot of characters to choose from. I chose Julius Caesar, and the song I am using to describe him is, "Help" by The Beatles. I chose this song because when Julius is being stabbed by the conspirators it seems like he is calling for help because they are killing him and there is nothing he can do about it. If you read the lyrics you will see how it says, "My life has changed in oh so many ways" this describes Caesar's life too because before Pompey died nobody wanted to kill Caesar, but after Cassius wanted everyone in Rome to hate Caesar.

When I heard the assignment, I automatically put together my favorite character, and one of my favorite songs. Papa Roach's 'Getting Away With Murder'. This song conveys the cruelty and sinister nature that Cassius posesses, and I honestly felt that it was perfect. Especially at this particular line in the song:
'I feel irrational
So confrontational
To tell the truth I am
Getting away with murder
It isn't possible
To never tell the truth
But the reality is I'm getting away with murder'
Cassius is a very calculating man. He knows what he wants, and how he can get it. And that is by exploiting and using others. This song shows that in so many ways, I think.

The song I have chosen to write about is "Pressure" by Paramore. This is one of my favorite songs written by this band, and I feel that the lyrics can relate very much to Brutus as soon as he joins the conspiracy against Caesar.
"I can feel the pressure,
it's getting closer now.
We're better off without you."
I feel that these specific lyrics in the song describe how Brutus feels because when he finally joins the conspiracy and plans on killing Caesar, it is the official proof of betrayal. Brutus knows that he can deal pretty well with Caesar ruling, but can only handle so much. He feels the pressure of being the last to kill Caesar, as his best friend, but knows that everyone will truly be better off without Caesar around.

In Julius Caesar, I would pick the song "Down" by Blink 182 to describe Caesar in the assassination scene when he looks to Brutus. There's one line in the song that I would like to point out now to avoid confusion, when Tom DeLounge says "I'll try to kiss you if you let me," that doesnt goe very well with the scene. Besides that, the song goes very well with it. In the verses of the song, it sounds like Caesar's thoughts toward Brutus while he is reaching for him after being stabbed. At the end of the verses, a low voice whispers "This can't be the end..." and "You did this..." in the second verse. This signifies when brutus turns around and stabs Caesar. The pre-chorus goes:
"Tidal waves they rip right through me
Tears from eyes worn cold and sad
Pick me up now, I need you so bad."
and then the chorus goes:
"Down down down down [x4]
It gets me so"
This signifies Caesar falling and dieing after being betrayed by Brutus. Another funny thing about this song is that it immediatley goes into "The Fallen Interlude", which is an instrumental song that I would think of if I thought of Caesar dieing or dead.

P.S.- I couldnt get on my internet last night and I thought I heard you say in class that it was due Tuesday.
In the play Julius Caesar, I selected the song Apologize by One Republic to represent Brutus. It was not very easy trying to pick a song, since there are so many to chose from. The song Apologize represent Brutus in many ways. One way it could represent him, is that Brutus is explaining to Caesar that he done so much harm to Rome by killing Pompey and there is no way to apologize for it, or make up.
It's too late to apologize, it's too late
I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late
This is the chorus of the song. This is how Brutus would explain how he felt to Caesar.
I'm hearin what you say but I just can't make a sound ; this line of the song explains how Caesar is explaining what he will do with Rome to Brutus, but there is no way he can respond so him.
I loved you with a fire red- Now it's turning blue, and you say..."Sorry" like the angel heaven let me think was you
But I'm afraid... ; these lines of the song represents Brutus explaining to Caesar that he loves him but his passion for Rome is so much stronger, and he is afraid what Caesar might do to Rome since he killed Pompey.
This is a terrific song that would represent Brutus because he is so upset with his friend, that he has to murder him to calm him down. Brutus is upset that he killed Caesar, but Caesar had it coming after he murdered Pompey. Caesar wanted to be the one and only ruler.
To me this assignment is very ironic, because as we were reading about Portia a song came to mind. As we learned, she is a stoic and shows no emotion at all. She is a strong woman and I truly like that about her. The song 'Big girls don't cry' by Fergie comes to mind, mostly because Portia doesn't strike me as the 'crying type'. The lyrics to this popular hit can be found at: http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/fergie/biggirlsdontcry.html
The song that I have chosen is True Affection by The Blow. This song is the theme for Calpurnia because it is such a sweet song about love and how a girl is in love with a boy but he’s out of her league and she is trying to reach him but he’s just too far away kind like how Caesar is so close to Calpurnia but too far away for her to save him. This reminds me of how Caesar is too full of him and too far lost in his own mind “twenty thousand underneath the sea”. She loves him so much but he won’t listen to her plea for him to stay rather than go to the Capitol to meet his doom. I love this song I think it’s so cute and sweet like Calpurnia.
